Blogging Experience

I really enjoyed all the classes we had in the lab. We could post on our blogs and we could learn at the same time. I tried to comment in my entire classmate’s blogs but at the end I could not because of the time. When I read the posts that my classmates posted I could realize that we have a lot of things in common.

I think this experience was useful to improve our writing. I edited all my post when I realize I had made a mistake and that helped me to learn from my own mistakes.

I think I would change the way I wrote. Sometimes I wrote on my blog just because I had to do it, but I did not focus in the topic and I ended up writing just stupid things and that was just because of the time. When I went home I tried to improve the post and edited them.

Yaela's Blog

I’m reviewing Yaela’s blog which is called “Never ever ever give up!”. There are 9 interesting posts and all of them caught my attention. She did a really good job, but she needs to improve the order of the sentences. I’m not saying that everything is wrong, but Yaela needs to focus in what she is doing. She did a very good job and I know Yaela is improving her English. I think the best way to improve that is studying and paying attention in what we are doing. If you see her blog, you can realize that the first one has some mistakes and the last one has just few mistakes, and that’s mean she studied and she improved her writing.

My favorite post is about Chileans. I could realize that she is very patriotic. Sometimes young people do not feel identify with our country, national song or our flag, but Yaela is very interested on our tradition, especially in our national dance.

I like the order of her blog. Everything is in order and you know where you are. It is not a messy blog and the color she uses is a technique to catch you attention.

The most important think she could improve is about the structure of the sentences and the way she uses verb to be. She forgets to put “is” in some sentences, but it could be a typing mistake too.

To finish, I have to say that Yaela has done a very good job during the semester. She has put effort to improve and to get good marks.

Living lazily

I think the problem is that we are lazy. I’m not saying that all of us are lazy, but the most of my classmate, including me. We are always under pressure and all of the teacher say us that Language is the most important subject, but at the same time we have to get good marks in the others subjects as well. This has happened to everyone in this career.

The problem is not the teacher. She is always prepared to help us. The problem is that some of my classmates are in the wrong place, so they do not do their homework for example just because they are demotivated. I’m a little bit demotivated too but not because of the teachers. Another thing is that some of us think that we are still in school and do not take this seriously.

I think the solution is that we have to study harder than before and we have to have priorities. I know we have just 1 or 2 weeks left, but it is now or never. If we do not put the effort to pass the course, everything is going to hell.

Do schools kill creativity?

The video was so right in some points. For example, Robinson said that the most important subject is math and English, but also those are the subject that the students hate most. Arts are on the bottom and those are the subject that students enjoy more because they can develop their creativity and imagination, the most important things that Robinson said.

Another thing is the fact that some people think that being a teacher is the worst thing you can do. That is so sad, because our career is taken as an easy one and it is like you could not reach the enough points in the PSU to study architecture, medicine or to become an engineer. People do not think that we are studying pedagogy because we love to teach.

I do not totally agree with Robinson, because I think schools do not kill our creativity at all. In fact, schools help us to have more imagination. Nowadays, Chilean schools evaluate our knowledge and how much we studied. They should evaluate our creativity too and what we can do with that knowledge, how do we take it to the future. Our society asks us to go to school. If we want to get a good job, we need to study. It does not matter how creative we are, we have to get good marks and pass the entire subject to be successful in life.

Tyler Shields (Edited)

I do not have a favorite piece of art, but I have a favorite artist. Tyler Shields is an American photographer who takes photo to celebrities. His artwork is based on love, war and hollywood. I first hear about him when I saw a picture about an handsome actor with a power saw on his hand. At first, I thought it was so agressive, but I started to search more information about the photographer and I realized that the most of Shields work were based on love.

I have to say that I do not like so much his violent photos. For example, He took a photo of an actrees in a room where the walls were stained with blood, so I was shocked when I saw that kind of art.

Anyway, I like him, especially the way he does "collisions" with two photos.

Orlan (Edited)

Orlan is a very interesting artist. I have to say that I love this woman, even when the most of my classmates say she is crazy. The idea of being paid to give a kiss is awesome. She gave us an excellent example of what men think about women. I think this performance change a lot her life. The way she expressed the male chauvinism was so clear and I could understad everything about her thinking.
I did not understad why she got fired after that performance. She is an artist and I think people have to respect her.

However, I disagree about narcissism. I think our body is not an object that a person can change like she did. God made our body to respect it and to do the right things.

The idea about exhibitionism is the most interesting thing that caught my attention, because the word's exhibitionism is not just being naked on the streets. Exhibitionism is to express ideas or feelings, so it is just she did with her performances.

She expresses her ideas so clearly and she makes a great job with her photos and performances that I would love to see her work in an exhibition or even in a musseum. So I have to say that I consider her as an artist. And also, I like the way she looks.

EDUCATION

The thing that caught my attention was about the test that students do. They don’t have the points to reach the minimum level. I really believe that it is not a problem with the students.

There are some teachers, as the article said, that do not have the property way to teach their students. Some of them are just in the classroom to watch their student and to maintain the order. In my case I had a lot of good teachers that taught me a lot of useful things that I will never forget. I remember that my first English teacher used to show us a lot of pictures and we had to describe the entire photo. But I had some bad teachers too that did not teach me anything at all. My Math teacher used to read the newspaper in class and we did not learn anything. The problem with that teacher was that when he took the test to evaluate him he got the high level in the school and I did not why!

I would like to be an excellent teacher. The most important thing in the education is that our students need to learn meanwhile they are learning and they have to have a critical thinking. I think that if we are not able to do that we will not be successful teachers.

Right now I’m not taking action in what I have to do to be a teacher. I mean I know I have to read a lot about education, but the only thing I’m doing is studying English to get good marks.

I think that our country needs a lot of thing to improve education. The government has to take control in the school which has the lowest level of teachers and the universities that allow students without the PSU have to be more cautious. The most important thing is that there are some students who are studying pedagogy just because they did not have the enough points in the PSU. Those students do not know that being a teacher is more than that.

BBC Website

The page that our teacher gave us is wonderful! I have visited the page before and I think is a great page to learn English and read news from the world, even news about our country.

The best part of the page is the wordmaster. It is a great exercise to learn new words and know how to pronounce them. There are a lot of words that I ignored, but now I know they exist.

One of the most interesting parts of the website is where we can read news from Chile and the world in general.

I really enjoyed the crosswords. I could not do the crossword in the lab because the computer and the internet did not work. I did it in my computer at home and I completed all the crossword about The Beatles (that is my favorite English band).

To finish, I could say I enjoyed all the things about the page miss Beatriz gave us. It is a good way to learn and having fun at the same time.

Earthquake

I was in Cauquenes with my cousins and aunts at the moment of the earthquake. I felt very worried about my family, specially my mom. The cellphones didn’t work and we couldn’t call her. It was terrible because she was in Santiago.

I tried to calm down but when the earthquake started I ran away, I felt and I got hurt my knee with a plastic bottle. My aunt was shocked and she couldn’t go out of the house. Her son had to help her to get up and go to the backyard.

I was with my 5 years old cousin, but fortunatelly she didn’t realize that there was an earthquake. Her mom had to wake her up to go out. I think she didn’t know what was going on because no one screamed or cried at the moment.

I was afraid to come back to Santiago, because the buses there weren’t working. One of my cousing from Santiago took his car and went there to take us back home. When I saw him I felt relaxed, because I knew we would go home soon.

After the earthquake we stayed in a tent, because my aunt’s houses made a lot of noise with the aftershocks. We made a “camping” with a table and a bonfire. My little cousin was happy, because her dream was to camp out of the house.

I felt very sad when I heard about Pelluhue, because we wanted to go there on Saturday to buy souvenirs to my friends and mom and the city dissapeared after the tsunami.

My family is ok and no one suffered damages. Even though my nephew’s grandfather lost his house and everything on it, they are working hard to rebuild their lives.

Studying

I’m always nervous before a test, even though if a studied or not. I try to study 2 or 3 days before a test, but I can’t focus on what I have to do, so I ended up studying 1 day before.

When I study, I do it in my room. I prefer to do it in the university with my friends, because I think is easier sharing ideas than studying alone in home.

I try to check my notes every day and I summarize the info, but I don’t do it every day. Actually the last time I checked my notes was the last week, but now I have to do it for the next English test.

I don’t study in the same way to every subject, because in others subject I always have to read texts. But with English I have to check my book and notes, so I think is easier studying English than others subjects.

When I was at school I didn’t study, because I didn’t have study habits. Now at university I ought to study, because I can’t fail the courses.
